#1: Cloud Computing

Worse... Word... Ever!
The worse marketing proposal used as this ambiguous phrase has around 8 different meanings. This 'idea' has been around since the dawn of computers, it's just not had a bullshit label associated to it. If you discover anyone using this, punch them hard in the neck!

I touched a little on cloud computing within one of my initial blogs The future of XML gateways . I now have an absurdly negative opinion when someone uses these words together. How about, you stop using these buzz words, stop piggybacking the efforts from more intelligent individuals and stop trying to come up with some 'innovated solution'. It won't work, its a terminology that we all know is diminishing because the word it rubbish, stop using it.

#2: Solutions

This buzzwords makes me want to hurt myself - Enough said!

#3: Best practices

Yes, there is often a better way to do things, though stop overusing this phrase.

#4: Next Generation

A personal favourite. Basically someone in marketing or sales and using the magic or persuasion to promote the idea that there's an alteratve solution than the existing.

Quick dialog that happened somewhere on Earth:

Boss: We should look into the next generation of this software
Not-Boss: What about the existing generation of software?
Boss: No no no, NEXT GENERATION is the future, there's no hope for the existing software, we need to have VISION for our business!
Not-Boss: So we don't need this software thats readily available now?
Boss: OF COURSE, otherwise we wouldn't have anything to base next generation future on
Not-Boss: So what happens then this next generation software is available?
Boss: Well... we won't have to worry about it too much, cause by then we'll have our eyes set on the NEXT GENERATION!

#5: Bubble

I love this buzz word, I use it myself though it's been overused in the incorrect fashion by too many people

The first ever 'bubble' was known as Tulip Mania. This all happened basically because of the surrounding influential individuals having an idea that the value of tulips would continue to increase.

People in Holland believed they could buy a tulip with the intention on sell it on for more. Though who says what the true value is and how do you consider it being overpriced is people are continuing to buy them?

At the pinnacle point of the bubble, tulip were valued as the houses they currently resided in. It's obvious some bloke then said to himself, "WTF am I doing!! I need to sell these, with haste thinks the same!". Needless to say a lot of people were hard done by

Another most recent example was the US housing market. Half-wits buying houses valued at $500,000 with their $20,000 wage with the intention on selling it as a profit. a 'bubble' is a good analogy on the situation in hand - the bubble increases to the point of bursting. That said, it's an overused word, especially around 2008. That is why 'bubble' is at number 5.

#6: Framework

Wake me up and throw coffee in my face. The word framework in my eyes has no meaning whatsoever!

#7: Out-of-the-box

Take that knife and stab it in my stomach! This is just an excuse for software to politely say, 'it does what it does' and anything else you give us more money and we'll see what we can do

#8: Low Hanging fruit

My old boss used this and I just thought he liked using it because it reminded him that his belly wasn't quite full! If this was a drinking game and I was on a call with him for 10mins, I would be hammered!

#9: Social Analytics

What complete nonsense. Marketing idea of understanding trends against complexities of life because it's far too difficult to consolidate peoples online habits.

The sailent facts are these; People like watching youtube videos of other people falling over. An insecure teenager girl will try and hack her ex-boyfriends e-mails, and the betting habits with online poker is purely dependant on how many times their boss has said, 'low hanging fruits' causing them to get drunk whilst in a drinking game

Understanding social trends: Complete

#10: Reinvent the wheel

Why do you believe I'm 're-inventing the wheel'? Everyone knows the invention of the wheel was perfect. It's simplistic concept of the wheel leaves no room for alterations.

People would be COMPLETE IDIOTS to think otherwise so why state the obvious?

Though lets think about this for a minute.... 're-inventing the wheel'... wouldn't that be the most AWESOME thing ever?

Thought i'd give it a shot and try and actually re-invent the wheel whilst I was waiting for my train back to New York

A simplified definition of wheel: It's circular component applied to an axel.
So the 'wheel' part could be any shape. For example, I would probably fail if I created a square wheel though the basic rules that every teenage boy know is:

  • Big surface area wheels: Increased traction causing more grip/balance though reduces top end speed.
  • Small surface area wheels: Increased top speed causing more top end speed, though reduced grip/balance for cornering.
So what if the wheel changed shape dynamically based on it's speed and cornering? The variable shape of the wheel will be controlled by the air pressure intake from the axel.

And this is where I stopped thinking... because I quickly realised that, based on my definition, the circular component and the axel is the wheel. My idea is merely a subcategory of the existing wheel.

And how do you apply perfection to a perfected design like the wheel... You cannot! DAMN, I wish someone 20mins ago said to me, 'dont try and re-invent the wheel'!

The WeMos D1 is a ESP8266 WiFi based board is an extension to the current out-of-the-box library that comes with the Arduino installation. Because of this, you need to import in the libraries as well as acknowledging the specific board. This process is highly confusion with a number of different individuals talking about a number of different ways to integrate.

HOW TO provision AD group membership from OpenIDM

OpenIDMICFAD-connector

For what I see, there's not too many supportive documentations out there that will demonstrate how provision AD group membership with the ICF connector using OpenIDM. The use of the special ldapGroups attribute is not explained anywhere in the Integrators guides to to the date of this blog. This quick blog identifies the tasks required to provision AD group membership from OpenIDM to AD using the LDAP ICF connector. However this doesn't really explain what ldapGroups actually does and there's no real worked example of how to go from an Assignment to ldapGroups to an assigned group in AD. I wrote up a wiki article for my own reference: AD group memberships automatically to users This is just my view, others may disagree, but I think the implementation experience could be improved with some more documentation and a more detailed example here.
