I'm in a dilemma on what to get the girlfriend for her birthday. I imagine a 'happy birthday' text message would not quite cut her expectations, especially when she jokes about 'cutting me up' if I fail to impress. There has been hints on the new IPad 3 which I've at least contemplated.
Generally speaking, our modern day society is driven very much on a materialistic approach. Advertisement and marketing around annual holidays drives us to systematically support the economy with our spending. In my eyes buying xmas cards and easter eggs should classified as a modern day taboo.
The image of Apple
Promoting the products, emphasizing the importance of the late iconic Steve Jobs and imaging the company in the correct fashion are fundamentals to the success of Apple. Maintaining these 3 aspects will ensure only a slow decline of value regarding the IPad. It's Apple's to lose because right now there isn't a true competitor within the market share.
Another good note about the company is that even though Apple failed to meet sale forecasts, they still managed to sell 84% more ipads than the year before.
Bad Apples
People are blinded when subjected marketing influences. Lets not forgot that the iPad 3 has no newly-innovated functionality. It's simply a composition of technologies and features that already exist within the world. Though Apple will promote the iPad3 as a 'new product' though there seems to be little substantial difference when comparing iPad 2 vs iPad3.
Decline of technology
The value of technology falls into common trends. The value of my samsung-galaxy s captivate is a good example when I tried to recycle it for money.
Based on the cost efficiency of creating hardware products (even though the hardware isn't created by Samsung), following the concept of Moore's Law and with the initial overpricing of a new product lead to my phone having a current value of $4.36.
The reason for the overpricing value currently associated to the iPad3 would be because of it's new product development. As stated before, the issue with the iPad is that there's nothing innovated since the IPad2 with no new functionality that you cannot discovered with other products.
In a matter of interest, I reviewed the older products and technologies in comparison to modern phone. Turns out a HP-12C Financial calculator with it's original case has twice the value of my broken samsung phone. I believe this is due to the efficiency of creating modern hardware in comparison to the year 1981, where the excessive usage of the depleted resource of 'technology metals' was not the biggest concern.
Conclusion
Based on the information within the biased argument argument above, the girlfriend should be expecting $20 worth of a card + flowers from the local gas station instead of a $700 IPad... I also save around $680 so everyone wins!
Birthday Party
Since writing this blog, guess what the girlfriend received from a family relative at her birthday party... Everyone is happy!

For what I see, there's not too many supportive documentations out there that will demonstrate how provision AD group membership with the ICF connector using OpenIDM. The use of the special ldapGroups attribute is not explained anywhere in the Integrators guides to to the date of this blog. This quick blog identifies the tasks required to provision AD group membership from OpenIDM to AD using the LDAP ICF connector. However this doesn't really explain what ldapGroups actually does and there's no real worked example of how to go from an Assignment to ldapGroups to an assigned group in AD. I wrote up a wiki article for my own reference: AD group memberships automatically to users This is just my view, others may disagree, but I think the implementation experience could be improved with some more documentation and a more detailed example here.
